O’Reilly Auto Parts 500


Blake Koch easily out-paced NASCAR Playoff contender Daniel Hemric for top-of-the-chart honors during Friday afternoon’s opening practice for the 13th annual O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 XFINITY Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.

Koch, who is not among the eight Playoff drivers, toured TMS’ 1.5-mile oval in 28.519-seconds and 189.347 mph in his No. 11 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Chevrolet Camaro. Koch’s time was a full 0.287-seconds quicker than Hemric, a Playoff participant who ran 187.461 mph in his No. 21 Blue Gate Bank Chevrolet.

Speeds for the other Playoff contenders: Elliott Sadler, eighth in the No. 1 Dale’s Pale Ale Chevy at 186.316 mph; William Byron, 12th in the No. 9 Liberty University Chevy at 185.906 mph; Cole Custer, 13th at 185.816 mph in the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang; Brennan Poole, 14th at 185.414 mph in the No. 48 DC Solar Chevy; point-leader Justin Allgaier, 16th at 184.843 mph in the No. 7 Degree Deodorant Camaro and Ryan Reed, 18th in the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes #DriveYourHealth Ford at 184.483 mph.

A second and final 55-minute practice got underway at 4 p.m. (CDT). The XFINITY drivers will qualify Saturday at 5:05 p.m. and race at 7:30 p.m.
