KESELOWSKI PACES SECOND CUP PRACTICE
With the track surface continuing to rubber in, Brad Keselowski topped the time sheet following Saturday morning’s second Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Keselowski, the only two-time series winner this season, toured TMS’ repaved and re-profiled 1.5-mile oval in 27.531 seconds and 196.143 mph in the No. 2 Miller Lite Ford Fusion. Keselowski, of Penske Racing, recorded his hottest lap halfway through a 26-lap run as preparations continued for Sunday’s 21st annual O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 (12:30 p.m. CT, TV: FOX).
Kyle Larson was second fastest at 27.538 seconds and 196.093 mph in the No. 42 Credit One Bank Chevrolet SS fielded by Chip Ganassi Racing. Ty Dillon rounded out the top three with a lap in 27.545-seconds and 196.043 mph in his No. 13 GEICO Chevy SS fielded by Germain Racing.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. gave Junior Nation a wake-up call with a lap at 195.943 mph in the No. 88 Axalta Chevy SS, good for fourth overall. Chase Elliott, Junior’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate, was fifth fastest at 195.837 mph in his backup No. 24 NAPA Chevy SS. Elliott damaged his primary car during Friday’s lone practice session.
Kevin Harvick, who earned his first Cup pole at TMS on Friday, was 19th at 194.112 mph in the No. 4 Jimmy John’s Ford. The Stewart-Haas Racing ace earned the pole with a lap in 27.217-seconds and 198.405 mph.
A final, 50-minute practice is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
