NASCAR’s D4D Pit Crew Combine At TMS This Weekend
FORT WORTH, Texas (June 5, 2015) – The National Football League is not the only sport that has combines to identify and evaluate college prospects that may have a future on a professional level.
>NASCAR’s Drive For Diversity program has made an outreach to local major colleges and universities, including Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University, to identify minority athletes that could possess the potential to become NASCAR pit crew members.
Beginning today and continuing Saturday of the Firestone 600 INDYCAR/NASCAR doubleheader weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, NASCAR will invite the athletes to its display area in the speedway’s midway area outside of the main concourse gates to perform various speed and agility various drills and evaluate their potential.
The Drive for Diversity Pit Crew Challenge Combine display is open to the public both days from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CT with the prospects scheduled to test from 12:30-3:30 p.m. daily under the tutelage of D4D crew member development program pit crew coach Phil Horton. Olympic gold medalist and TCU alumni Doc Patton will serve as a celebrity judge and there also will be autograph sessions with special guests throughout the days.
This is the first of six stops that the Drive For Diversity Pit Crew Challenge Combine tour will make this year. The tour also will visit Gateway Motorsports Park on June 13; Chicagoland Speedway on June 20; Indianapolis (location TBD) on July 25; Dover, Del., (location TBD) on Oct. 2; and Charlotte Motor Speedway on Oct. 9.
