The Texas Motor Speedway Media Relations Department is located on the 6th floor of The Speedway Club at the speedway.
During race events, the staff operates from the Infield Media Center, located in the middle of the infield. On race days, the press box on suite level also is staffed. The media center, broadcast media center and press box are credentialed areas at all times during race week. Below is an alphabetical listing of informational items that will help answer some questions you may have. Of course, the Texas Motor Speedway Media Relations staff is on hand to answer any questions and assist with any of your needs throughout the weekend.
It is recommended to use the North Tunnel for traveling in and out of the infield. To access the North Tunnel, enter the speedway on Mark Martin Drive and proceed to Lone Star Circle. If you use the South Tunnel, you will need to enter the speedway on Labonte Ave.
Texas Motor Speedway accepts credential requests from accredited working members of the media via online application only. Go to www.smicredentials.com to apply for credentials for Texas Motor Speedway events, as well as those at other SMI-owned speedways. Please note that approval for an account does not mean you have been approved for credentials for an event. Once you receive approval for an account, you must complete the second step of applying for the credential. Media who have already registered need not register again. Written, fax, or email requests will not be accepted. Credentials and parking can be picked up at the speedway credential office, which is located directly behind the speedway ticket office.
The most common media access credentials are “PI” (Pit/Infield) and “GPI” (Grandstand/Pit/Infield). Garage passes are required for access to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series garage. Respective series hard cards will be honored in both garages as well. Media Center access: “MC” credential designation allows access into the infield media center and media center lounge (located between media center and café). “PB” credential designation allows access into infield media center, deadline room, press box and media center lounge.
The official dateline for Texas Motor Speedway is Fort Worth, Texas.

Packages shipped to the Texas Motor Speedway address can be picked up at the Texas Motor Speedway Warehouse located just outside the North Tunnel, to your left when exiting the tunnel.
Each media member with deadline room access will be assigned a seat. Each seat will be clearly marked with a name tag. Check in with the front desk to locate your seat. Please do not move seats without permission from the Texas Motor Speedway staff.
Shorts are allowed in the pit and garage areas.
The infield media center is located just off lower pit road in the speedway infield between the garages. Media with an infield paddock parking pass may park either in the North or South paddock parking areas. There also are pre-assigned parking spaces located in the media center reserved parking lot and on the Allison Avenue. If you are assigned one of these limited spots, please park in the designated numbered space that coincides with the number on your parking pass. Vehicles parking in these spots – even temporarily – without the properly numbered parking credential will be towed.
The media center provides work space for members of the media in the deadline room (assigned seating), photographer work room as well as a designated room for team/driver public relations representatives. Press conferences, post-qualifying interviews and post-race interviews are conducted in either Victory Theater or the deadline room in the infield media center.
All meals will be served in the media lounge located on the east side of the infield media center. Please refrain from bringing the food into the media center. Please note that an “MC”, “PB” or “BC” sticker will be needed to gain entrance into the lounge. Credentialed media members, with a credential, will be given a meal card to check-in before each meal. Please see a member of the Texas Motor Speedway PR staff for a card.
Media guides for Texas Motor Speedway, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, XFINITY Series, Camping World Truck Series and Verizon IndyCar Series are available at the deadline room counter.
The pedestrian tunnel is located at pit exit near the scoring pylon that will allow you to gain access to the grandstand area and press box. The tunnel is open each day when the gates open and will close approximately two hours after the day’s events are completed. You must have a GPI credential to have access to the tunnel.
Not all phone jacks in the deadline room are activated. Please make sure that the jack you are using has either a “green” or “red” dot located above the jack. If a jack has a green dot, this indicates that it is a direct dial line. If a jack has a red dot, this indicates that dialing “9” is required to access an outside line. Most red jacks are located on the wall outlets. The local area code is 817.
All credentialed photographers must have a blue vest and it must be worn at all times. To receive a vest, photographers must attend the mandatory photo meetings, located in the photo room, during the weekend where you will receive your photo vest redemption card. Vests are available at the counter in the media center. Meeting times will be posted in the photo room and throughout the media center. Upon checking out a photo vest, we ask that you fill out the checkout sheet. Photographers who do not return their vest will have their credentials revoked for subsequent races. Vests are available to credentialed photographers only. Photographers that do not adhere to the procedures reviewed during the mandatory photo meetings will have their credentials revoked.
There are reserved spots in Victory Lane for traveling photographers and select newspapers. If your publication does not have a reserved spot you may fill in the spaces around the reserved spots. Please be respectful of the other photographers and if you have any questions or concerns please see a Texas Motor Speedway Media Relations representative.

A separate room is provided for photographers in the infield media center. Space is available for approximately 35 photographers. The digital filing room, located behind the entry foyer, is complete with high-speed Ethernet connections, wireless Internet, phones, television monitors, shelves above the work spaces for equipment and lockers. If you need a lock for use of a locker, please see the front desk.
There are various opportunities for driver interviews at the conclusion of the race and they vary from series to series. The following is an overview:
Post-race interviews on pit lane for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series: The second- through fifth-place finishers will pull onto pit lane following the conclusion of the race. Drivers are made available for interviews at this time. Please do not go over the wall onto pit lane until instructed by sanctioning body or Texas Motor Speedway officials.
Victory Lane (all series): The winner will be made available for post-race comments, both in Victory Lane (primarily for TV outlets) or in Victory Theater if raining. A mult box is provided for an audio connection in Victory Lane. You will need a “VL” access designation on your credential to get into Victory Lane post-race.
Post-race press conference: The top three finishers will be brought into the deadline room inside the infield media center. Both audio and video will be relayed to the press box. The winners will not be taken to the press box.
A work room for public relations representatives is located behind the entry foyer of the infield media center. The separate PR work room has wireless internet, multiple television monitors and shelving above the work spaces for storage. Daily statistical sheets also are delivered to the room. The room is the first door on the right as you enter the hallway behind the entry foyer.
The press box is located on Suite Level 1, Suite No. 1112. If entering from the west side of the speedway, enter through Gate 5 and go to the B-5 elevator tower. If entering from the infield, take the Barr Tunnel (pedestrian tunnel) located near pit exit, next to the scoring pylon. Once at the tunnel exit, take the grandstand stairs to the concourse and head right to the B-5 elevator tower. You must have a “PB” access sticker on your credential to gain entry.
Wireless internet service is available in the press box. Audio and video of the post-race press conferences will be broadcast live to the press box on the television monitors. A microphone will be available in the press box for media who would like to ask the drivers a question. All timing and scoring sheets - as well as post-race team and driver info and quotes - will be made available in the press box.
Press box parking is located across from Gate 5. You must have the proper parking pass to gain access. Assigned media center parking passes are also valid for press box parking. If you do not have the proper parking, please check with a representative of the Texas Motor Speedway Media Relations staff and they will issue the proper one.
A list of all scheduled press conferences can be found in the information bins as well as posted throughout the media center. The press conferences are open to anyone with media center access.
For Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series: The top three qualifiers will be brought into the deadline room for the post-qualifying press conference. If needed, a “bullpen” on pit road will be provided for Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver interviews as well. If a driver qualifies among the top five at any point, he will be brought to the bullpen for media availability. Please check with the Texas Motor Speedway media relations staff for the location of the bullpen during qualifying.
For Verizon IndyCar Series: A media bullpen will be set up near the start-finish line on pit road. Top drivers will be brought to this area for initial post-qualifying interviews. The top two qualifiers will be brought in for the post-qualifying press conference.
Individual team press kits will be available behind the media center deadline room counter. Available press kits will be indicated on the board behind the counter.
NASCAR Statistical Services and INDYCAR will supply the Texas Motor Speedway staff with various statistical information, advisories and updates throughout the weekend. This information will be handed out in the deadline room, PR work room, photographer work room as well as the Infield Broadcast Center. Copies also will be available in the information bins located in the front lobby of the infield media center and hallway of the Infield Broadcast Center. Each assigned seat in the deadline rooms of both buildings also will have plastic folders to keep your daily notes organized.
