Carl Edwards (No. 60 Fastenal Ford) earned his second consecutive Nationwide Series victory at Texas Motor Speedway as he won the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300. Edwards, who won the Coors Light pole, led 169 laps and joined Kyle Busch as the only Nationwide Series drivers to win from the pole at TMS.

2011 marked the beginning of a new tradition at Texas Motor Speedway; Sprint Cup Racing on Saturday night under the lights! Once the sun set, the lights came on and Matt Kenseth (No. 17 Crown Royal Black Ford) snapped his 76-race winless streak by winning the Samsung Mobile 500. Kenseth was able to finally break through at “The Great American Speedway!”™ after finishing runner-up four times since his first victory at TMS in 2002. Kenseth led a race-high 169 laps to help him become the fourth Sprint Cup Series driver with multiple wins at “The Great American Speedway!”™

Ron Hornaday Jr. (No. 33 Kroger/AMS Chevrolet) picked up his third career victory at Texas Motor Speedway in dramatic fashion during the WinStar World Casino 400. Hornaday Jr.’s victory was the result of a miscue by Johnny Sauter during the final restart. Sauter violated the NASCAR rule of moving out of your respective lane before reaching the start/finish line on the restart resulting in a black flag.

For the first time in IndyCar Series history and 18th time in American open-wheel history, drivers competed in two individual races in the same evening during the Firestone Twin 275s. Dario Franchitti (No. 10 Huggies Honda) finally secured his first victory at “The Great American Speedway!”™ in dominating fashion. In the opening race, he started on the pole and led 110 of 114 laps for the win to become the seventh IndyCar Series driver to win from the pole at TMS.

Kevin Harvick put KHI Racing into victory lane late in the organization’s final season in the WinStar World Casino 350k NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. Harvick bested Austin Dillon by 0.294 seconds for the triumph. An on-track incident with Kyle Busch and Ron Hornaday resulted in Busch’s suspension from the remainder of the weekend’s NASCAR Texas action.

Bayne nipped veteran Denny Hamlin by 0.142 seconds to earn the Victory Lane visit with Carl Edwards third in the 300-miler highlighted by 11 lead changes.

The AAA Texas 500 is the eighth race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, a make-or-break event on the march to the championship. Tony Stewart turned victory in the AAA Texas 500 into the key point on the timeline to the 2011 Sprint Cup championship. Stewart set the pace for 173 tours of “The Great American Speedway!” and capitalized when leader Jeff Burton ran out of fuel with five laps remaining. Stewart bested title contender Carl Edwards by 1.092 seconds at the checkered flag for his second Lone Star State Sprint Cup victory.
