JONES WINS O’REILLY AUTO PARTS 300 POLE

Erik Jones got faster during all three rounds of knockout qualifying Saturday afternoon en route to claiming pole position for the 13th annual O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Jones, driver of the No. 20 GameStop/Call of Duty WWII Toyota Camry, toured TMS’ high-banked, 1.5-mile oval in 28.232 seconds and 191.272 mph in Round 3 to nail down his second pole and 14th top-10 start of 2017. The pole also was Jones’ second in six races at TMS, and 14th in 76 XFINITY races.
Jones was fourth fastest in Round 1 at 187.467 mph during a session led by William Byron at 188.383 mph in the No. 9 Liberty University Chevrolet Camaro. Jones drove to the top of the Round 2 order at 189.920 mph en route to his pole-winning lap.
Round of 8 Playoff contender Cole Custer qualified second at 190.101 mph in the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang, with Matt Tifft third at 189.954 mph in the No. 19 Surface Sunscreen/Fanatics Toyota.
The remaining six Playoff contenders were led by Elliott Sadler in fifth at 189.653 mph in the No. 1 Dale’s Pale Ale Camaro; Daniel Hemric in sixth at 189.567 mph in the No. 21 Blue Gate Bank Camaro; Byron in ninth at 189.235 mph; Brennan Poole in 12th at 187.292 mph in the No. 48 DC Solar Camaro; points leader Justin Allgaier in 13th at 187.944 mph in the No. 7 Degree Deodorant Chevy; and Ryan Reed in 15th at 187.383 mph in the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes #DriveYourHealth Mustang.
Scheduled for 200 laps/300 miles, the race will start at 7:30 p.m. CT with live coverage on NBC Sports Network.
