DILLONS DOMINATE OPENING XFINITY PRACTICE
The Brothers Dillon dominated the speed chart Friday afternoon during the first NASCAR XFINITY Series practice for the My Bariatric Solutions 300 on the repaved and re-profiled 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway oval.
Ty Dillon’s hot lap of 28.909 seconds at 186.793 mph in the No. 3 Bulwark/Oncor Chevrolet Camaro led a field of 42 drivers posting times, with older brother Austin third at 29.068 seconds at 185.771 mph in the No. 2 Ruud Camaro. The Dillon Chevys are fielded by grandfather Richard Childress.
Sandwiched between was Erik Jones at 28.924 seconds at 186.696 mph in the No. 20 GameStop/GAEMS Toyota Camry fielded by Joe Gibbs Racing. The first practice ran for 1 hour, 25 minutes.
The Dillons and Jones are regulars in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and therefore ineligible to score driver points in this series. That also is the case for Ryan Blaney (185.561 mph) and Daniel Suarez (185.503 mph), the respective fourth- and fifth-fastest lappers.
Cole Custer, in sixth, was the fastest XFINITY regular at 185.109 mph in the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang. Custer logged 39 laps, recording his hottest lap of 29.172 seconds on Lap 30.
XFINITY teams are scheduled for a second, 55-minute practice Friday at 4 p.m. CDT. Same-day pole qualifying for Saturday’s My Bariatric Solutions 300 will take place at 9:35 a.m., basically three hours before the start of the 200-lap/300-mile race.
