TWO-TIME TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY DIRT TRACK CHAMPION LOOKS TO REBOUND

FORT WORTH, Texas (September 9, 2016) – The Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track ushered in Day 1 of the two-day U.S. National Dirt Track Championship Friday evening.

Limited Modified and Factory Stock drivers from across the region kicked off the weekend looking to qualify for the championships in both divisions. However it was the driver who didn’t advance that made headlines.

Two-time Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track Factory Stock champion Taylor Carver will have to qualify Saturday evening to earn a spot in the championship event. Carver, who looked poised to successfully defend his title during the Factory Stock A Qualifier, experienced mechanical issues on Lap 8. Carver’s car was sent spinning down the bottom of Turn 1 bringing out the caution. His car was pushed back to the garage area, ruining his chance at clinching a spot in Saturday’s championship.

Justin Whitehead was the winner of the Factory Stock A Qualifier. Joining him in Saturday’s championship feature include Jimmy Day, Bo Day, Chris Davis, Jamey Lough, Jason Gore, Casey Lyles and Tim Clonch.

Among the eight drivers advancing to the Limited Modified Championship is 2014 U.S. National Dirt Track champion Tracy Denby Jr. He finished fifth in the Limited Modified A Qualifier, locking him into the championship feature. Limited Modified A Qualifier winner Brandon Kelly, Kale Westover, Gabe Tucker, Derick Grigsby, Robert Vetter, Dustin Robinson and Jacob Pirkle join Denby Jr. in Saturday’s Limited Modified Championship.

Racing continues Saturday for the Factory Stock and Limited Modified, along with the return of American Sprint Car Racing (ASCS). Sprint car drivers from the ASCS Red River Region will hit the track. The weekend culminates Saturday with championship races for all three series. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. CT and racing begins at 7 p.m.

U.S. National Dirt Track Championship grandstand tickets for Saturday are $20 for adults and $10 for children. Fans can save $5 on adult tickets purchased at any participating O'Reilly Auto Parts store.
