RAYZOR, SAMUEL BECK ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS PERFECT IN TURN 4 OF SPEEDING TO READ COMPETITION

  • Both Division Leaders Had Every Student Meet Reading Goals For The Competition’s Final Turn
  • Season Champions To Be Crowned In Front Of Assembly Of More Than 6,500 Students May 24 At Texas Motor Speedway

FORT WORTH, Texas (May 12, 2016) – E.P. Rayzor Elementary had company at the top as Trophy Club’s Samuel Beck Elementary matched the Lantana-based school’s perfection in the fourth and final turn of Texas Motor Speedway's Speeding To Read program. 

Both Rayzor, the Backstretch Division leader, and Samuel Beck, the Frontstretch Division leader, had every student from kindergarten through fifth grade in their respective schools meet the pre-set reading goals for the eight-week, Turn 4 scoring period. For Rayzor, it marked the fourth consecutive turn in the 2015-16 competition that the school has reached 100 percent while it was the first time for Beck, whose previous best was 99 percent in Turns 3 and 4. 

Three other schools among the 11 that are competing in this year’s competition bettered the 90 percentile for Turn 4 with Old Settlers at 99 percent, Sendera Ranch at 93 and Hargrave at 92.The schools combined to read 332,055 books during the eight-week scoring period and have surpassed 1 million books read for the school year. 

Rayzor (Denton ISD), Samuel Beck (Northwest), Old Settlers (Lewisville), Sendera Ranch (Northwest) and J.A. Hargrave (Crowley) will be joined by Nathan Adams (Dallas), Carroll Peak (Fort Worth), Riverside Applied Learning Center (Fort Worth), O.A. Peterson (Northwest), Northbrook (Eagle Mountain-Saginaw) and Rockbrook (Lewisville) for the Speeding To Read Championship Assembly that will be held Tuesday, May 24, at Texas Motor Speedway. 

Texas Motor Speedway will announce and crown the season-long champions at the morning assembly in the frontstretch grandstands that will include drivers from the Verizon IndyCar Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series as special guests. 

Rayzor was guided in Turn 4 by the top K-2 classroom as well as the leading individual readers in K-2 and 3-5. Aleisha Moore’s first-grade class led all K-2 classrooms by averaging 1,087 books per student. Kindergartener Karina Singh paced K-2 with 10,649 books read while fourth-grader Noah Temer led 3-5 with 590 books read. 

Lori Lucas’ third-grade class from J.A. Hargrave led the 3-5 division for the fourth consecutive turn by averaging 202 books per student. All the overall turn winners came from the Backstretch Division schools. 

Old Settlers swept all four categories for Turn 4 in the Frontstretch Division. Kindergartener Aubrey Ames led K-2 in the division with 2,867 books read while Michael Du paced 3-5 with 571. Erin Walter’s kindergarten class was the division leader in K-2 (281 books per student average) and Olivia Dunaway’s fifth-grade class was tops for 3-5 (97 books per student). 

Score-A-Goal in the Classroom is donating 240 new books to the Turn 4 leaders. The school libraries of division school leaders Rayzor and Samuel Beck, individual division leaders and students of the classroom division leaders all will be rewarded in a season-long program that will provide more than 1,800 books to the schools and students involved. 

Score-A-Goal in the Classroom is among the 11 Texas Motor Speedway Speeding To Read partners that consists of NASCAR, Verizon IndyCar Series, Lionel Racing, aai Trophies & Awards, Domino's, Woolley's Frozen Custard, Kid's Beach Club, Speedway Children's Charities-TMS Chapter, The Speedway Club and SMI Properties.
