Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series

FORT WORTH, Texas (April 25, 2017) - The following is a statement from Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage on today's announcement that Dale Earnhardt Jr. will retire at the conclusion of the 2017 season.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished fifth in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, which was his first top-10 since June of last year when he was second at Pocono. That finish was his fifth consecutive top-six Cup performance at Texas Motor Speedway.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series makes the first of two stops this season at Texas Motor Speedway with today’s 21st annual O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 (12:30 p.m. CT, TV: FOX, Radio: PRN, SiriusXM Channel 90 and 95.9 FM The Ranch locally). Five items to ponder before the green flag drops:
The 21st annual O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race is off-and running at Texas Motor Speedway _ except for Austin Dillon. The grandson of team-owner Richard Childress pulled off the track during a warm-up lap and headed to the garage area, reportedly with a broken left trailing arm.
Jimmie Johnson jump-started his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway with a victory in the 21st annual O’Reilly Auto Parts 500.
