FORT WORTH, Texas (November 1, 2014) – Six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson posted the fastest lap during Saturday’s final practice session for the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Johnson (Lowe’s Red Vest Chevrolet), who will start third in Sunday’s AAA Texas 500, recorded a lap of 193.791 miles per hour to pace the 43 cars in the 50-minute session. He also had the best 10 consecutive lap average at 188.771 mph.
Ryan Newman (No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet) was second fastest with a lap of 193.771 mph and was one of four Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship contenders among the top 10. Joey Logano (No. 22 AAA Insurance Ford) was fourth at 193.396 mph, Carl Edwards (No. 99 Aflac Ford) eighth at 192.575 mph and AAA Texas 500 polesitter Matt Kenseth (No. 20 Dollar General Toyota) 10th at 191.714 mph.
Rounding out the top five fastest was Paul Menard (No. 27 Richmond/Menards Chevrolet) ranking third with a lap of 193.597 mph and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (No. 88 Diet Mountain Dew Chevrolet) fifth at 192.954 mph.
The AAA Texas 500, the second of three Eliminator 8 Round races, is scheduled for a 2 p.m. CT start. The event will be televised live on ESPN and also available on PRN, Sirius XM Radio and locally on KRLD-AM 1080.
