FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 1, 2014) – Roush Fenway Racing driver Carl Edwards recorded the fastest lap during Saturday’s first of two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice sessions for the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Edwards (No. 99 Aflac Ford) ran just one lap, but that lap of 196.342 miles per hour was fast enough to top the 42 cars that participated in the 50-minute session.
Two-time defending AAA Texas 500 champion Jimmie Johnson (No. 48 Lowe’s Red Vest Chevrolet) was second at 195.822 miles per hour, just 0.073 seconds slower than Edwards.
Tony Stewart (No. 14 Bass Pro Shops/Mobil 1 Chevrolet) finished third after running 200.111 miles per hour in Friday’s qualifying session for the AAA Texas 500 – an all-time record at 1.5-mile ovals.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to the track for final practice at 1 p.m. CT before the AAA Texas 500 on Sunday at 2 p.m.
