FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 6, 2014) – Frenchman Mikael Brageot captured the Challenger Cup class race, but high winds and approaching thunderstorms canceled the Masters qualifying during Saturday’s opening day of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship before an estimated crowd of 20,000 at Texas Motor Speedway.
The qualifying rankings will be based on the fastest time of each pilot throughout Saturday’s training sessions that were held prior to the 28-mile-per-hour winds and circling thunderstorms arriving.
Sunday’s schedule of events will remained unchanged for the championship round of the Masters class of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship. Gates open at 9 a.m. CT with the pre-race entertainment beginning at Noon. The Masters competition opens with the Top 12 beginning at 12:15 p.m., followed by the Super 8 (1:15 p.m.) and Final 4 (approximately 2 p.m.).
Following the podium ceremony in Victory Lane, the Red Bull Air Race World Championship organizers will have a free public hangar walk beginning at approximately 2:35 p.m.
Tickets, beginning as low as $39, are available for Sunday’s championship round of the Masters by visiting www.texasmotorspeedway.com or by visiting Gate 4 in front of the speedway’s main grandstands. Parking is $10.
