FORT WORTH, Texas (June 6, 2014) – Target Chip Ganassi Racing’s Tony Kanaan recorded the fastest lap in Friday’s opening Verizon IndyCar Series practice for the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Kanaan (No. 10 Suave For Men Chevrolet) ran a top lap of 219.382 miles per hour in the 75-minute practice session, a lap that was more than a mph faster than the next best among the 22 cars on track. Chip Ganassi drivers owned the top-three fastest laps as Kanaan was followed by defending Verizon IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon (No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet) at 218.321 mph and Ryan Briscoe (No. 8 NTT DATA Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet) at 217.763 mph.
Andretti Autosport’s Marco Andretti (No. 25 Snapple Honda) was fourth at 217.575 mph and Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves (AAA Insurance Team Penske Chevorlet), a four-time winner at Texas, was fifth at 217.529 mph. Chevrolet claimed seven of the top 10 fastest laps.
The Verizon IndyCar Series returns to the track at 2 p.m. CT for NTT DATA Qualifying Day to set the starting line-up for the Firestone 600.
