Rookies, This was us last year.

Photobucket

We removed it last weekend. Because this year No Yellow Strips. I told me husband that I was going to miss it being back there be we meet several GREAT people wonting to know about that Yellow Strip. On our first trip out we went to Atlanta. My husband got stoped along the way. The Cop that he had been drinking. Then the Highway Patrol came up and stoped and we got talking about the yellow strip and Nascar. He did know something about Nascar and told the cop that we were just rookie camper heading to Atlanta for our first trip in our RV. So, finely he let us go on.

No Strip this year for us!!!

My son and I are coming to the race at Texas and we are like way rookie-like Joey Logano rookie, only I'm not as young, or cute Smile although my son  (he's 9) is, and i have no clue as to what to do. lots of questions. i have race tickets, but my friends who have been to races talk about getting something where you can get down and " mingle" with the drivers before the race...? what is that, is it worth the extra money? (i spent more than we had on the tickets, but i want him to have the full expierence, here) where do i buy it?

what time should we get to the race on race day and should we buy parking now? it looks like it's $40 through ticket master, is this the way to go? we are driving from missouri.....staying sat. night near the race track. no nationwide tickets, so we are only coming on sunday.

is there other stuff i need to know...am i in over my head? i'm a single mom who is trying to give my son the time of his life here, and okay, i love NASCAR, too. Wink

okay, thanks

Many people use ticketmaster but most of us recommend calling the ticket office. The TMS staff really are helpful and they will hook you up with what best suits you. General parking is free.

I always tell people to be parked by sunrise. If you aim for that, you will have NO problem finding a spot to park and you will not fight any traffic. The only thing bad about TMS is the traffic. So get there early and don't be in a rush to leave after the race.

Sunday morning is not a good time to meet drivers. Pit road is packed. Drivers are busy. You won't get very lucky. Most people choose to "meet drivers" on days other than raceday. Like Thursday, Friday, and Saturday(maybe).

Remember, you can bring your own coolers with your favorite beverages and food. Just no glass. Each person can bring a cooler but the cooler can only be so big. Check the visitor guide on this site. I think its 14 x 14 x 14 but don't quote me on that.

Trust me on this, if you have never been to TMS or any race, the midway is something ever fan must experience. If for no other reason but to just be around "our people".

Hope this helps.

Where in Missouri are you coming from?  I have a friend coming from Bentonville Arkansas!  Just wondering if you're anywhere close to her!

As Ike said, Midway is great, he will really love it, unless something changes, there's all sorts of things to do and games, prizes and free gifts to win and get.  Pretty neat!  Only at a Speedway can ya bring back toilet paper!  :)  It is too bad ya can't come on to the Nationwide Race too!  Those tickets are not that expensive.  I say that, trust me though, I DO know Single Mom status.  If you're only coming on Sunday, as Ike said, it's not the best time to go to the Pit area.  There is the Pre-race "Mosh Pit" thingie, where you stand and watch the ZZ Top concert and I believe you get to see driver intro up close, which is 79.00 each.   If you get to the race early early Sunday morning, a lot of the drivers sign at their Haulers and you can take pictures and things of them then!

What's your sons name and who's his favorite driver?

Let us know if we can help ya out with anything else!  And Welcome to the Board, come join us every chance ya get!

Wow!! Thank you to everyone who answered us and was so kind.  As usual, when I have asked a question NASCAR fans have proved themselves to yet again be the kindest and most generous of fans (I ask lots of questions at NASCAR.com, because I've only been watchin' races since like April and everyone is pretty patient with me-my son and i share a blog there...)

We are coming from Springfield and I called the Speedway and a very nice girl explained that parking was free (yay, more money to spend on the "midway"-is it called?) and that people have to be 18 to get those HOT passes anyway, and after what was said here, I decided the experience alone would be enough for us. After all, the drivers are not really our friends, and I don't want my son to have a bad experience, he hears so many negative things about most sports stars in the news, he believes most of the NASCAR guys to be good people, I don't want his opinion to change because he finds out someone is really a jerk. He is the one who got me into racing, he started watching it and we only have one tv...(and no cable, it was a long summer, we had to watch via nascar.com...)

We used to share the same favorite driver, Denny Hamlin-who is still my favorite (I like all Joe Gibbs Racing guys, even THAT one Wink) but Aaron-my son has recently decided to like Jeff Gordon, and even renamed the cat Jeff Gordon and also Kevin Harvick. Don't know why. He says he thinks Kyle busch behaves badly, which is true, although Kyle reminds me a bit of my 9 year old, so I have more patience with him (i'm a high school teacher so I naturally have more patience i guess). anyway....thank you again for all the advice. as the time gets closer, I have been feeling a bit more intimidated by the undertaking of what i have done here (or hear, as Denny would say)  oh, and we both like carl edwards....so sorry to go on, most of my friends hate NASCAR, and my students really make fun of me, so...thank everyone again for your help for this mom and her son-you don't know what this trip means  to us and how much you've helped.

You are going to have a blast at TMS.   Don't forget the ear plugs/headsets for yourself and your youngster.

Don't forget to call the Ticket Office at 817-215-8500 if you still need parking they can help you get into what they call the express lot really close.    Have fun and if you get to the track and get lost or don't know where you are going, you can always ask a staff member dressed in TMS shirts they will be glad to help you find what you are looking for.  Don't forget the camera and cooler!  Have fun!
