NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kurt Busch will test an Indy car Thursday for Andretti Autosport at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The agreement between team owner Michael Andretti and Busch is for a test just two days before the track opens for Indianapolis 500 practice. Busch said he would be interested in exploring the possibility of someday attempting “The Double” by running the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. “Let’s see how the test goes, and then I can look at the opportunities that could be beyond this coming Thursday,” Busch said. “Running the Indianapolis 500 would certainly be a highlight, and doing another 600 miles in a Cup car on the same day would make for a special weekend.” Only John Andretti, Tony Stewart and Robby Gordon have attempted the feat. … Penske Racing lost its initial appeal of penalties against the teams of Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano. The NASCAR panel upheld all fines, point penalties and suspensions facing the Penske teams for unapproved rear housing parts discovered prior to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series NRA 500 on April 13 at Texas Motor Speedway. Penske argued that the parts were approved, but that the team was simply working in a gray area that many other teams were as well. NASCAR argued that “gray area” included modifying the parts to create a competitive advantage and thus making them no longer approved. The next step for Penske will be to appeal their case to NASCAR chief appellate officer John Middlebrook. Last year, Middlebrook overturned the suspension and point penalty handed down to Jimmie Johnson’s team following an inspection for an illegal C-post prior to the 2012 Daytona 500.
