JR Hildebrand

JR Hildebrand enters the 2013 season driving the No. 4 National Guard Chevrolet for Panther Racing. His career-best finish entering the season was second at the 2011 Indianapolis 500, where he leading the race heading into the final turn before hitting the outside wall and enabling Dan Wheldon to pass him for the victory. The California native was a national merit scholar in high school but passed on an opportunity to attend the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology to pursue a career in Motorsports.

We’re happy to have Townsend back ... We really want to thank Sunoco for giving us an opportunity to expand our program this May and bring a familiar face back to Panther. We take a great deal of pride in being able to compete at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and we feel like this addition really strengthens our effort with JR Hildebrand and Oriol Servia as we prepare to make another run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The thing that's cool is meeting a lot of other athletes like baseball players and they totally know what's going on in INDYCAR ... Like Justin Verlander, who told me he was out in Long Beach (April 21 for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach). He just bought a ticket and showed up to the race like any other fan. I think that's cool. It's neat to have a little bit of back and forth with those guys.
