FORT WORTH, Texas (November 2, 2013) – Chase championship contender Matt Kenseth and reigning NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski recorded the fastest lap in Saturday’s final practice in preparation for the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Kenseth (No. 20 Home Depot Let’s Do This Toyota), tied for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship with Jimmie Johnson, and Keselowski (No. 2 Miller Lite Ford) both posted a fast lap of 189.434 miles per hour in the 50-minute practice session. Kenseth is starting sixth in Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 while Keselowski will be starting on the front row as he qualified second.
Paul Menard (No. 27 Quaker State/Menards Chevrolet) was third at 189.175 mph, Kyle Busch (No. 18 Snickers Toyota) fourth at 188.930 mph and Martin Truex Jr. (No. 56 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota) fifth at 188.818 mph. AAA Texas 500 polesitter Carl Edwards (No. 99 Aflac Ford) was 10th at 187.182 mph and Johnson (No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet) was 16th (186.722 mph).
Kenseth and Keselowski also ranked first (185.323 mph) and second (185.020 mph), respectively, for the best 10 consecutive lap average during the session while Johnson (184.661 mph) was third.
Sunday’s AAA Texas 500, the eighth race in the 10-event Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, will begin at 2 p.m. CT.
