FORT WORTH, Texas (June 7, 2013) – Reigning Indy 500 champion Tony Kanaan of KV Racing Technology recorded the fastest lap in Friday’s final IZDD IndyCar Series practice for the Firestone 550 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Kanaan (No. 11 Sunoco/Turbo KV Racing Technology Chevrolet), who qualified a disappointing 15th in the 24-car field, found some off that missing speed in the final 30-minute session with a leading lap of 218.551 miles per hour (23.967 seconds).
Chevrolet claimed the three fastest laps as James Hinchcliffe (No. 27 GoDaddy Chevrolet) of Andretti Autosport was second at 217.575 mph and Firestone 550 pole winner Will Power of Team Penske third at 217.134 mph.
Rounding out the top five were a pair of Hondas with Scott Dixon (No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) of Target Chip Ganassi at 216.710 mph and James Jakes (No. 16 Acorn Stairlifts Honda) of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing at 216.572 mph, respectively.
The Firestone 550 IZOZ IndyCar Series race begins at 7:30 p.m. CT Saturday and will be broadcast live on ABC-TV (WFAA-Channel 8 locally) and IMS Radio Network (KRLD 105.5 FM – The Fan locally).
