FORT WORTH, Texas (June 6, 2013) – NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie Jeb Burton posted the fastest lap during Thursday’s opening practice for the WinStar World Casino 400 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Burton (No. 4 Arrowhead Chevrolet), son of 2002 Daytona 500 champion Ward Burton, posted a lap of 180.971 miles per hour (29.839 seconds) among the 59 he ran during the 2½-hour opening practice.
Intermittent showers in the morning led to a 30-minute delay for the start of practice and NASCAR officials opted to run one continuous practice rather than two 75-minute sessions with a 30-minute break in between.
Burton was followed by a trio of Toyotas, with defending WinStar World Casino 400 champion Johnny Sauter (No. 98 Carolina Nut Co./Curb Records Toyota) second fastest with a lap of 180.656 mph.
Timothy Peters (No. 17 Parts Plus Toyota) was third at 179.402 mph and Chad Hackenbracht (No. 51 Tastee Apple Toyota), making his first career NCWTS start with Kyle Busch Motorsports, was fourth at 179.384 mph. NCWTS championship leader Matt Crafton (No. 88 Goof Off/Menards Chevrolet) rounded out the top five with a lap of 179.336 mph.
Reigning NCWTS champion and Plano, Texas, native James Buescher (No. 31 Ruud Chevrolet) was 14th at 178.141 mph.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to the track at 6 p.m. CT for WinStar World Casino 400 pole qualifying.
