NRA Secures Title Sponsorship For April's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race At Texas Motor Speedway
FORT WORTH, Texas (March 4, 2013) - The annual spring NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway will be retitled the “NRA 500” and serve as the first prime-time Saturday evening race of this season. The NRA replaces Samsung Mobile, which had served as the title sponsor of this race since 2002. Gossage made the announcement and unveiled the race logo during Texas Motor Speedway’s annual Media Day held in the Grand Ballroom of The Speedway Club.
“The NRA has been involved in the sport for several years and a partner of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. for many years in various aspects, and this race entitlement is just another extension of that business relationship,” Gossage said. “We look forward to another successful partnership with the NRA for our April race week of activities.”
The NRA has had a relationship with the NASCAR industry for more than a decade on a variety of platforms. The organization continues to be a generous supporter of SMI’s Speedway Children’s Charities and its fund-raising events since 2000. The NRA has contributed more than $500,000 to the Texas Chapter of SCC at Texas Motor Speedway alone.
NRA’s most recent race entitlement in the sport came last season when the organization was the title sponsor for the NASCAR Nationwide Series race known as the “NRA American Warrior 300” that was held Sept. 1 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR owner Richard Childress is a current NRA board member and team owners and drivers have donated sponsor space on their cars to support the NRA in the past.
NRA Executive Vice President and CEO Wayne LaPierre was unable to attend the event in person, but did provide a video message for the Media Day audience.
“The NRA 500 is the latest announcement in the long history of a growing partnership between the NRA, Speedway Motorsports and the NASCAR community,” LaPierre said. “NRA members and NASCAR fans love their country and everything that is good and right about America. • Dude Perfect Basketball Trick-Shot Artists To Produce Video Of Competition Between Visiting NASCAR, INDYCAR Drivers At TMS
Dude Perfect, the basketball trick-shot specialists and YouTube sensations, have taken all kinds of incredible shots since they began in 2009, but their latest venture may truly be a shot in the dark.
Dude Perfect has enlisted the Texas Motor Speedway Media Day guests – Ricky Stenhouse Jr. of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Travis Pastrana of the Nationwide Series, James Buescher of the Camping World Truck Series and James Hinchcliffe of the IZOD IndyCar Series – to test their skills Monday afternoon in a basketball trick-shot competition and determine Dude Perfect’s motorsports basketball trick-shot champion. None of the drivers have a significant basketball or trick-shot background, so it should be extremely entertaining to watch them attempt shots that Dude Perfect makes routinely.
“The opportunity to film with the drivers at Media Day is one we're especially excited about,” said Coby Cotton, one of the five Texas A&M graduates who make up Dude Perfect. “We already know they're competitors on the track so we're anxious to see them compete with each other as they shoot to conquer the art of the trick shot. We especially enjoy working with athletes from a variety of sports because there is something intriguing about watching them outside of their comfort zones. That said, we have a feeling these guys will be picking up these skills pretty quickly!”
Dude Perfect will transition from performers to instructors as they will attempt to teach these trick-shot rookies how to execute three types of shots utilizing some of the aspects of Texas Motor Speedway. Each driver will have a specific number of attempts with the following shots:
• Bank(ing) Shot: With the basketball goal positioned just below the white line between Turns 1 & 2, each driver will attempt to bounce it off the 24-degree banking from the top of the turn into the hoop below.
• “Taking It To The Bank” Shot: Standing behind the goal, each driver will throw it over the backboard and utilize the banking to bounce the ball back toward the goal and into the basket.
• Laser Shot: The final shot will be a long-distance heave from the flagstand into the hoop situated on the apron of the frontstretch.
After each driver completes his attempts, the Dude Perfect team will huddle together to determine who will be crowned the Dude Perfect motorsports basketball trick-shot champion. All the action and every attempt by the drivers will be filmed using multiple camera angles. Dude Perfect will then produce a final theatrical version to be uploaded on their YouTube page www.youtube.com/user/corycotton leading up to the April 11-13 NRA 500 NASCAR double-header weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. The video is expected to debut the week of April 8, with the specific date being announced upon completion of the video.
The five-man team consisting of Texas A&M graduates Coby Cotton, Cory Cotton, Cody Jones, Garrett Hilbert and Tyler Toney began making videos of incredible basketball shots at various venues during final exams in April of 2009. Today, they have more than 643,000 subscribers and 106 million views across their online content. Dude Perfect has worked with numerous organizations, venues and sports stars such as reigning Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M and the U.S. Olympic team.
• Dude Perfect Releases Second TMS Trick-Shot Video
Dude Perfect unveiled the second of a three-video series of basketball trick shots at Texas Motor Speedway Monday with the premiere being shown to the audience at Texas Motor Speedway’s Media Day in the Grand Ballroom of The Speedway Club.
Coby Cotton, Cody Jones and Tyler Toney of the five-man team were on hand at Media Day for the video debut that featured a variety of basketball trick shots in and around the speedway that was filmed on Feb. 9-10. The highlight of the video was Toney making a shot in a basketball goal that was suspended in the air high above the infield by weather balloons.
Devin Super Tramp produced the video from Dude Perfect’s February shoot and it is scheduled to be released to the public today on his YouTube channel www.youtube.com/user/devinsupertramp.
Dude Perfect’s first TMS video, which is available for viewing on their site www.youtube.com/user/corycotton, was the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop that went live on Dec. 31. The video featured Dude Perfect sinking a basket from the top of the nine-story Speedway Club building and it has attracted more than 227,000 views.
“Texas Motor Speedway was an epic location for our most recent video,” Coby Cotton said. “It was a natural fit for the ‘Go Big’ style we like to target and we can’t wait to film some more with these iconic drivers at media day.”
• Firestone Extends INDYCAR Race Entitlement For Three More Years
Firestone Racing Executive Director Al Speyer announced Monday at the Texas Motor Speedway Media Day that the tire manufacturer has signed a three-year extension as the race entitlement sponsor for the annual June IZOD IndyCar Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. The title sponsorship of the Firestone 550 – “America’s Original Nighttime IndyCar Race”—will now extend through 2015.
"Firestone Racing is thrilled to announce this extension with Texas Motor Speedway, which will make it a six-year run of continuous race title sponsorship from 2010 to 2015,” Speyer said. “It continues our long-standing partnership with Eddie Gossage and his great staff that goes all the way back to 1997.
“This year's Firestone 550 comes as we gear up for the highly anticipated July release of the DreamWorks ‘Turbo’ animated film, where the Firestone brand will be prominently featured. We are very excited about the movie premiere, just as we are to see the Firestone 550 continue for another three years and for its live prime-time broadcast this June on ABC-TV. The Firestone 550 will be held Saturday, June 8, and televised live during primetime on ABC-TV.
• O’Reilly Auto Parts Extends Sponsorship On Both TMS Nationwide Races
O’Reilly Auto Parts and Texas Motor Speedway have agreed to terms on a four-year extension of its current title sponsorship of both NASCAR Nationwide Series races at Texas Motor Speedway. O’Reilly Auto Parts will continue to be the race entitlement sponsor of April’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 and November’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge through 2016.
O’Reilly Auto Parts is the longest-running active race sponsor at Texas Motor Speedway, having sponsored the speedway’s Nationwide Series events since 2002. O’Reilly Auto Parts made its sponsorship debut at Texas Motor Speedway with the O’Reilly 300 in April of 2002 and has since sponsored the ensuing 11 spring Nationwide Series events. The national auto parts retailer also has served as the only sponsor for the November Nationwide Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, which was added to the schedule in 2005.

• NOS Named Official Energy Drink Of Texas Motor Speedway
NOS Energy Drink will take over the Official Energy Drink category at Texas Motor Speedway, beginning this year and running through 2015. The contract length will mirror Texas Motor Speedway’s existing contract with Coca-Cola, which produces NOS Energy Drink.
The Texas Motor Speedway relationship marks the energy drink’s latest sponsorship in its growing motorsports area. Last year, NOS announced a sponsorship deal with Roush Fenway Racing and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. He has been one of the primary spokespersons for NOS and has been the driving force behind their new social media campaign, #iamNOSome.
NOS Energy Drink replaces Red Bull as the Official Energy Drink of Texas Motor Speedway. Red Bull held that official status from 2005-12 and departed after the company opted to shift its focus away from NASCAR.

Texas Motor Speedway’s “No Limits” Garage Party presented by WinStar World Casino prior to the NRA 500 on Saturday, April 13, will feature some hard “nocks” as part of its entertainment lineup.
Nerveless Nocks, known for their aerial daredevil performances, will entertain fans from high above the LiftMaster Garage with their high-flying antics. The group will display their aerial skills with a motorcycle high-wire act and sky-high sway pole show.
The group will balance its motorcycle along a high wire strung across the LiftMaster Garage, performing a series of mid-air stunts while the sway pole performers will balance on a pole that will stretch high above the speedway. The performance will include a hand-over-hand climb to the top where they will move from pole to pole and finish with a thrilling headfirst free fall to the ground.
Fans also can catch side-by-side racing before the green flag of the NRA 500 even drops as the Lone Star Mower Racing Association showcases lawn mower racing. Drivers will compete in qualifying heat races and will finish with a 20-lap feature event.
The Fort Worth-based Time Machine Band will headline the entertainment stage performing songs across different genres from rap to country. Drivers and VIP guests also will stop by the stage to visit with fans during special Q&A sessions.
