• Dallas-Based Musicians Are Set To Perform Live On WFAA During Texas' Largest Annual Televised New Year's Eve Celebration
DALLAS, Texas (Nov. 28, 2012) - This year more than 1,000 musical acts entered the Texas Motor Speedway Fast Track to Fame Big D NYE competition. From pop to country, blues, rap, metal and more, area musicians competed for the opportunity to showcase their skills and perform live during Big D NYE, the annual New Year's Eve event and television broadcast presented by WFAA and American Airlines Center.
The votes have been tallied and Breaking Southwest has been named the grand-prize winner. The Dallas-based band has been selected to perform at Big D NYE in front of a live audience of over 35,000 people outside American Airlines Center at Dallas' Victory Park complex. This year's show marks the sixth consecutive year of Big D NYE, and the third year for the Fast Track to Fame competition. The Denton-based band Good Shive Low won last year's contest.
Big D NYE activities begin on Dec. 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Victory Park. The live television broadcast, hosted by WFAA's Pete Delkus and Dale Hansen, begins at 10:30 p.m. It is also scheduled to be televised in more than 20 markets including Houston, Austin, Tulsa, New Orleans and others, in seven states to an estimated audience of over 6 million viewers.
Critics have compared Breaking Southwest's unique crossover country sound to that of local artists such as the Eli Young Band, and even Grammy winner Keith Urban. Band members include Kent Bell, Kyle Gaston, Shannon Ward, Bryan Meggison, Kerry West, and Matt Aslanian. Bell and Gaston began playing music together in 2010. A year later they had added multi instrumentalist Ward, as well as Meggison on bass. They later recorded a full length CD with 10 original songs, and have played shows at locations such as the House of Blues in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, developing a loyal following.
The Texas Motor Speedway Fast Track to Fame Big D NYE competition is a hotly contested battle of the bands. The number of bands that submitted entries this year broke all previous records. Performers were encouraged to submit original music and compete for a slot in what has become Texas' largest annual live televised event designed to ring in the New Year. After entering the competition, the ten best and brightest artists, as ranked by an online community of music fans, rose to the top. Music experts and a special panel of industry professionals reviewed the top 10 and selected the winning band.
In addition to performing live at Big D NYE, Breaking Southwest will receive a cash prize, a special promotional feature on the Big D NYE web site along with tickets to the official Big D NYE VIP Party.
