FORT WORTH, Texas (July 30, 2012) – More than 400 different competitors converged upon Texas Motor Speedway’s 1/8-mile drag strip down pit lane for the six-week Friday Night Drags presented by SCION and six drivers, including a pair from Fort Worth, were crowned division champions for their season-long performances.
Michael Lewis, of Fort Worth, was victorious in three of the six weeks with his 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS and that powered him to the title in the Sportsman Division, the largest competitor division of Friday Night Drags presented by SCION. Mike Franks also brought Fort Worth a championship as the resident won the Supercars championship driving a 2011 Cadillac CTS-V.
Lewis was not the only three-time winner to claim a championship as Lee Manschmann, of Dallas, and Charles Carey, of Springtown, matched his dominance in their respective divisions. Manschmann and his 2008 Porsche GT3 earned the title in the Street Bandit Division while Carey and his 2006 Dodge RAM 2500 4x4 won the Black Smoke Warriors Division championship.
Jason Cromer, of Grandview, earned the title of Tuner Division champion while driving his 1999 Ford Escort ZX2. Ray Mitchell, of Keller, rounded out the champions, capturing the Street Outlaw Division in his 1986 Ford Mustang.
This past Friday evening’s season finale closed out the fourth season of Friday Night Drags presented by SCION, a program that was designed by Texas Motor Speedway to help curtail illegal street racing. Since the program started in 2009, more than 1,400 different drivers have participated in Friday Night Drags presented by SCION.
