FORT WORTH, Texas (April 14, 2012) - NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points leader Greg Biffle continued  his early-season surge Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway by claiming his first victory of the season in the Samsung Mobile 500.

Biffle (No. 16 Filtrete Ford) overtook a dominant Jimmie Johnson (No. 48 Lowe's/Kobalt Tools Chevrolet) with 31 to go in the 334-lap event to snap a 49-race winless streak that dated to October of 2010 in Kansas.

The win was his second at Texas Motor Speedway, his other coming in this spring event in 2005.  The performance also allowed Biffle to extend his points lead to 19 over Matt Kenseth (No. 17 Best Buy Ford), who finished fifth, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (No. 88 Diet Mountain Dew/National Guard Chevrolet), who was 10th.

The race set several records, all of which related to long green-flag runs. The field had a stretch of 234 consecutive green-flag laps (laps 101 through 334) that easily surpassed the previous mark of 122 set in the 2009 fall race.

It led to the fastest Sprint Cup Series race in speedway history at 160.577 mph, breaking the mark of 152.705 mph set in last year's AAA Texas 500 won by Tony Stewart. The Samsung Mobile 500 also set records for fewest cautions (2) and caution laps (10).

Johnson, who was chasing team owner Rick Hendrick's 200th career victory, seemed well on his way as he led a race-high 156 laps and was pulling away from the field with the exception of a relentless Biffle.

Following a final round of green-flag pit stops with about 50 laps remaining, Johnson cycled out in third but quickly found his way to the front with Biffle in tow. Biffle continued to chip away at the deficit and finally got a strong run on Johnson heading down the backstretch and into Turn 3 for the pass for the lead.

Running in clean air, Biffle began to build an advantage over Johnson . Any chance Johnson had of catching Biffle evaporated when Johnson smacked the wall in Turn 3 and Biffle pulled away to a comfortable lead. Biffle led the final 31 laps and 90 overall to coast to a 3.235-second margin of victory over Johnson.

Mark Martin (No. 55 Aaron's Best of the Best Toyota) finished third, Jeff Gordon (No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet), who started 34th, was fourth and Kenseth fifth.
