TRUEX JR. LANDS POLE FOR SATURDAY NIGHT’S NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES SAMSUNG MOBILE 500

FORT WORTH, Texas (April 13, 2012) – Michael Waltrip Racing driver Martin Truex Jr. earned the pole position Friday for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Truex Jr. (No. 56 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota) posted a lap of 190.369 miles per hour (28.366 seconds) to capture his seventh career pole and second at Texas Motor Speedway during SportsDay Qualifying Day Powered by The Dallas Morning News. His other Texas pole came at the Dickies 500 (now AAA Texas 500) in November of 2007. The pole also marked his first of this Sprint Cup Series season, in which he had not qualified better than 10th in the first six races prior to Friday’s effort.

Roush Fenway Racing earned the next two qualifying positions, with defending Samsung Mobile 500 champion Matt Kenseth (No. 17 Best Buy Ford) landing the other front-row position with a lap of 190.148 mph. Teammate Greg Biffle (No. 16 Filtrete Ford), the current Sprint Cup Series points leader, was third at 190.121 mph.

Rounding out the top five were Truex Jr.’s teammate Mark Martin (No. 55 Aaron’s Best of the Best Toyota) at 190.020 mph and Kasey Kahne (No. 5 Farmer’s Insurance Chevrolet) at 189.633 mph.

The three drivers that did not make the 43-car field were David Stremme, Joe Nemechek and Stacy Compton.

The season-opening race weekend at Texas Motor Speedway culminates Saturday night with the running of the Samsung Mobile 500, which begins at 6:30 p.m. CT.
