FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 28, 2011) - Speedway Children's Charities-Texas Chapter recently was honored as the Philanthropic Organization of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Fort Worth Metro Chapter during its 31st annual National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon.
For the past 19 years, the Association of Fundraising Professionals Fort Worth Metro Chapter has honored a corporation, foundation or organization in the Fort Worth area that has improved the community while fundraising effectively and ethically. Speedway Children's Charities-Texas Chapter is the 32nd different organization, which includes multiple winners some years, to receive the prestigious award since 1993.
Nominated by Catholic Charities Diocese of Fort Worth, Speedway Children's Charities-Texas Chapter was honored for its tireless efforts to raises funds for impactful grants and generosity that allowed the chapter to help more than two million North Texas children since its inception in 1997.
"It is a great honor to be recognized by the association for the work that we love to do," Speedway Children's Charities-Texas Chapter Executive Director Jennifer Henshaw said. "It speaks to the hard work of our volunteers and board members who are the key players, ensuring that Speedway Children's Charities continues to serve its mission of helping children in North Texas."
During its annual Christmas tree lighting and grant ceremony tomorrow evening, Speedway Children's Charities will move past the $8 million mark in grants distributed since the organization began in 1997. Speedway Children's Charities will award 23 grants to area non-profit organizations, including a special Founder's Grant of $125,000 awarded to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth.
Speedway Children's Charities' impact has been felt across the four counties it serves - Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant - as more than two million children in need have benefited from the organization's donations. That number could fill the grandstands of Texas Motor Speedway 14 times.
