Hallie Bea is three years old and has been diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anemia. Diamond Blackfan Anemia is a very rare bone marrow failure. Hallie’s family has been tested and are not a match for little Hallie. Their hope is that by joining the National Bone Marrow Registry they will find a match for Hallie. While Hallie’s hope is to be cured, she hopes to also find matches for others.
Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood. In the United States, only 30 percent of those across the nation who need a bone marrow transplant have someone in their family that can donate. On Friday, Speedway Children’s Charities-Texas Chapter, in conjunction with Cook’s Children’s Be the Match organization and the American Red Cross, hope to make a difference in someone’s life like Hallie Bea and give them the miracle they are looking for. Joining the bone marrow registry is simple. You can be someone’s miracle by stopping by and having your cheek swabbed. It is as simple as that.
The drive will be held on Friday from Noon-6 p.m. on the fourth floor of The Speedway Club. For more information, please call (817) 215-8421.
