Speedway Offers 'Smashing' Good Times this Weekend

by admin | 07/13/2011

There will be no shortage of excitement at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend as it will play host to two “monster” events with the second week of Friday Night Drags presented by Scion along with the return of monster truck racing with the Lone Star Monster Truck Nationals.

Street racers from across the Dallas/Fort Worth area will once again heat up the speedway’s 1/8-mile drag strip situated on pit lane. Drivers will continue to battle for points as they look to earn the bragging rights in one of the five different divisions (ATI Mission Driven Tuner, Street Bandit, Sportsman, Street Outlaw, Black Smoke Warrior).

During the first week of Friday Night Drags presented by Scion, more than 100 drag racers took part in the competition. The program, aimed at curbing illegal street racing, has continued to gain momentum as more than 800 different racers have competed in Friday Night Drags presented by Scion since it began in 2009.  Click here to watch a video from a racer’s perspective at last week’s event.

Along with Friday Night Drags presented by Scion, fans can check out some of the finest classic and custom cars on display during the Show-n-Shine competition held in the speedway’s South Paddock. Car enthusiasts will display their rides to earn awards for Best of Show, Best Classic, Best Current Custom, Best Scion and Best Motorcycle.

The Show-n-Shine competition runs from 6:15-8 p.m. CT while drag racing practice begins at 6:15 p.m. and division competition starts at 9 p.m. Competitor entry fees are $20 for drag racing as well as $20 for Show-n-Shine. General admission is $7 and fans can park for free outside Gate 6 and bring in their coolers. Two-for-one coupons for general admission can be found at local participating Roanoke businesses.  For a complete list, please click here.

The Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track also will play host to racing excitement as it will serve as the playground for monster trucks during the Lone Star Monster Truck Nationals on Friday and Saturday. Monkey’n Around, Outtacontrol, Strait Jacket, Cyborg, Twisted Dragon, Dragonfly, Iron Outlaw and Bounty Hunter will compete in a high-powered, car-crushing, wheelie-popping freestyle contest.

Fans also can get the opportunity to ride in the back of Alien Attack for free. The racing action gets underway at 7:30 p.m. for both days with a free pit party for ticketholders from 6-7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults in advance or $22 at the gate, and $10 for children (ages 4-12). Advance tickets can be purchased by calling the Texas Motor Speedway ticket office at (817) 215-8500.
