Everything’s Bigger In Texas

by admin | 05/25/2011

When it comes to NASCAR Camping World Truck Series racing at Texas Motor Speedway, there’s one common thought among drivers…“Everything’s bigger in Texas,” Ron Hornaday Jr. said. “I learned that a long time ago.”

Hornaday Jr. was one of four drivers participating in a Goodyear tire test at Texas Motor Speedway on Tuesday for the upcoming WinStar World Casino 400k on June 10. Currently fifth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship, Hornaday Jr. has five top-five finishes, but still is looking for a win this season. He has two Camping World Truck Series victories in 16 starts at Texas Motor Speedway – both coming in 2008 when he completed a rare sweep – and has led the most career laps with 663.

“Coming back to Texas we’ll do our normal stuff and what we’ve been good at,” Hornaday Jr. said. “We’ve been doing some experimental stuff and we hoped to have a win by now. Everyone thinks it’s all Kyle Busch, but he’s beatable and we’re definitely knocking on his door and it shows.”

Johnny Sauter, who also participated in Tuesday’s tire test, is second in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points standings. Sauter is the only full-time truck series driver with a win this season and believes Texas Motor Speedway is a place where he can dominate considering he finished runner-up in both truck series events last year.

“(Texas) is just so much fun,” Sauter said. “It’s an exhilarating feeling going through these corners wide open. It’s pretty much wide open and takes your breath away. It’s almost like a qualifying lap for 150 laps. Right now with the way Texas is getting a little bit of age on it, it’s one of the tracks I circle on the calendar and say we can come here and capitalize.”

Tickets are still available for the June 10 WinStar World Casino 400k.  Click here now for more information.
