Race weekend at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia definitely proved that the NASCAR drivers do indeed like to keep things interesting. Going into Martinsville, anyone would have thought that Denny Hamlin or Jimmie Johnson had this victory in the bag. Dominating the past nine Sprint Cup Series races at Martinsville, both drivers have proven that they know the track backward and forward. Kevin Harvick threw everyone for a loop when he squeezed his way to victory for the second weekend in a row, becoming the first Sprint Cup Series repeat winner this season. Someone had to do it! While Harvick definitely has reason to celebrate, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has reason to be pretty frustrated. Yes, Earnhardt scored his best finish since Daytona, but finishing second only added to his winless streak, making it 99. The results at Martinsville moved Kyle Busch up to the No. 1 spot in the Sprint Cup Series standings. Busch may have been pushed to the side by Harvick for the second weekend in a row, but he surely didn’t leave Martinsville too disappointed.
And finally! It’s that time of year! NASCAR comes to Texas and you know what that means! It’s race week here at Texas Motor Speedway and we want to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the exciting action! The fun starts tomorrow with Chevy Fan Day, where those who register can come out and watch the Nationwide Series practice at 2 pm and at 6 pm. AND for the first time EVER, the Sprint Cup Series drivers will practice and YOU get to watch for free! The Sprint Cup Series practice is at 4:10 pm Thursday so don’t miss out! You can still get your free tickets to Chevy Fan Day here! You don’t want to pass up this opportunity!
On Friday, the excitement heats up even more. Might as well start your day off early and come watch the Nationwide Series practice first at 9:30 am and then again at 11:15 am. At 7:30 pm, the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series starts off an exciting weekend of NIGHT racing! For the first time since we opened our doors in 1997, both the Nationwide Series race and the Sprint Cup series race will be held under the lights! So who will win the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 on this historic weekend? Kyle Busch’s performance has definitely put him in the spotlight. This season, he’s the only driver who can claim a race weekend sweep plus three of the five in 2011 Nationwide Series victories. To add to the mix, he has won the past three Nationwide Series races here at Texas Motor Speedway. Another driver to look out for is Kasey Kahne, who represents the Texas-born race team, Turner Motorsports. He has won here at “The Great American Speedway!”™ before and is not afraid to steal some attention away from Busch. It will be a great race, without a doubt! So don’t miss it!
Come Saturday, things might as well be on fire here at Texas Motor Speedway. With all the excitement on Friday, we will start the day a little later on Saturday. Gates open at 1 pm, but only the season ticket holders will be allowed in the gates at this time for the No Limits Garage Party presented by WinStar World Casino! They can start the day off with great “Happy Hour” specials and then explore all that Texas Motor Speedway’s exclusive No Limits Garage Party presented by WinStar World Casino has to offer. Fun won’t be hard to find, that’s for sure! Season ticket holders will get a chance to see two bands perform on Saturday. First, look forward to two performances by La Freak and then 3 Doors Down on the frontstretch! And that’s just to get things going! At 6:30, the Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race begins! Which NASCAR driver is going to take home Texas Motor Speedway’s unique hand-carved boot trophy?! Last season’s victory went to Denny Hamlin. Can he make it two years in a row or will Kyle Busch show us once again that he is in it to win it? Texas could bring Busch his second sweep of the season. We can’t wait to see what happens and hope that all you race fans are just as anxious to get this party started! Come out and celebrate NASCAR finally coming to the great state of Texas in 2011, first with the O’Reilly Parts 300 on Friday and then with the Samsung Mobile 500 on Saturday! See you in a few days!
