In a Tuesday morning meeting between NASCAR and Nationwide Series team owners, plans for the 2010 rollout of the new Nationwide Series racecar coalesced around a schedule that likely will include 5-6 races in 2010 before the cars go full-time in 2011.

You would expect to see NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards at the head of the Nationwide Series points standings, but you might be a little surprised by the guy in third.

Joey Logano’s victory in Saturday’s Nashville 300 may have come in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and not the Sprint Cup Series, but it still provided a boost for the Joe Gibbs driver who has been under intense scrutiny this year.

Paul Menard turned the fastest lap speed during the second Nationwide Series practice session Thursday afternoon. David Reutimann, Matt Kenseth, David Ragan and David Green were the next in line behind Menard.

The struggling U.S. economy has taken its toll on a lot of NASCAR teams, but R3 Motorsports is bucking the trend.

The team ran part time in the Nationwide Series last year, but it signed two new sponsors for 2009 and is running its No. 23 Chevrolet in all 35 series races this year for drivers Robert Richardson Jr. and Ken Butler III.

Kyle Busch, winner of Sunday’s Shelby 427 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, holds four records at Texas Motor Speedway. In the 2008 O’Reilly 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race, he set the record for the winner’s furthest starting position – 31st – and also became the youngest Nationwide winner at 22 years, 11 months and three days old. Busch later became the first Nationwide Series driver to pull off a season sweep of both events at Texas Motor Speedway with his win in the O’Reilly Challenge. In addition, he established a new track record for most laps led, leading 174 of 200 laps.
