Foreigner rocks TMS
Legendary rock band Foreigner kicked off Sunday’s events at Texas Motor Speedway headlining the Amdro Pre-Race show on the frontstretch.
Foreigner, known for its huge hits in the 1970s and 80s, fired up the fans playing eight of their former hit songs, opening with "Double Vision." They also performed, "Head Games," "Cold As Ice," "Feels Like the First Time," "Urgent," "Jukebox Hero," and "I Want to Know What Love Is."
They capped the show by rocking the fans with "Hot Blooded" just moments before the driver introductions before the Samsung 500.
Going green
The start of the race at Texas Motor Speedway has been a wild adventure in the past. But Sunday’s race opened with 97 laps without a caution. It was the longest stretch of green-flag laps in TMS history to start a Sprint Cup race.
Edwards fades after pit
Carl Edwards seemed headed to victory until a final pit stop during a caution. Edwards had a botched pit stop with 26 laps to go and dropped from first to 11th because of problems with his front-tire changer. Meanwhile, Jeff Gordon won the race off pit road and it helped lead to his victory.
"My guys are trying real hard, we’re all in this together, but we can do a better job than that and I’m sure we will," Edwards said.
Edwards, who had passed Gordon for the lead and led nine laps, was denied a potential third- consecutive victory at TMS and finished 10th.
Reutimann’s pit miscue
Pole sitter David Reutimann was forced out of contention after a miscue on pit road on Lap 157. Reutimann pitted outside his box and was penalized one lap. The front end of his car was across the line marking his pit area. He went from running among the leaders to 28th and finished 11th.
"We just spent the rest of the day trying to battle back and we were able to do that," Reutimann said.
Reutimann had the pole position for just the second time in his career.
