FORT WORTH, Texas (November 6, 2009) – Kyle Busch (No. 51 Miccosukee Resort/Graceway Toyota) began his trek toward an unprecedented NASCAR triple-header sweep at Texas Motor Speedway with a victory in Friday evening’s WinStar World Casino 350k NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.
Busch held off polesitter Matt Crafton (No. 88 Menards/McGuire-Nicholas Chevrolet) by .996 of a second to register his fifth win in his last five starts and fuel his bid for a weekend sweep in NASCAR’s three national series. The victory was Busch’s seventh on the season, which includes the current five-race win streak that began at Bristol in August. It also was his first Camping World Truck Series win at Texas Motor Speedway after finishing runner-up in his last two visits and three of the previous four.
Next up for Busch is Saturday’s O’Reilly Challenge, where he is a heavy favorite having won the last three Nationwide Series races at Texas Motor Speedway.
“I hope I didn’t screw it up for tomorrow since I never won here in the trucks and won the Nationwide race here three times,” Busch said afterward. “We’ll see what we can do. It would be pretty awesome to get all three done here in Texas.”
The key moment for Busch came on Lap 97 when he and points leader Ron Hornaday Jr. (No. 33 VFW Chevrolet) battled for the lead. Busch, in pursuit of Hornaday Jr., came up strong, made bumper-to-bumper contact that got Hornaday nearly sideways and then overtook him high to gain the lead on Lap 98 of 147. Busch never relinquished the lead over the final 50 laps to earn his 16th truck series win in only 67 career starts.
Hornaday Jr. finished third, Todd Bodine (No. 30 Copart/PurpleHeartCars.org) fourth and Ovalo, Texas native Colin Braun (No. 6 Con-way Freight/True LTL Ford) fifth.
