Dickies 500 Owns Largest Chase For The Sprint Cup Purse For Fifth Year In A Row

  • Dickies 500 To Pay Out Record $7,359,286 To 43-Driver Sprint Cup Field
  • Only Race In 10-Event Chase To Surpass $7 Million In Purse Money

FORT WORTH, Texas (October 8, 2009) – The Dickies 500 will boast the largest purse in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup for the fifth consecutive year with a record payout of $7,359,286 for the Nov. 8 event at Texas Motor Speedway.

The Dickies 500 purse is the only one among the 10 Chase speedways to surpass $7 million and easily outdistances the second largest of $6,204,988 provided by California’s Auto Club Speedway. Rounding out the top five Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup purses are Kansas Speedway ($6,182,706), Talladega Superspeedway ($5,492,493) and New Hampshire Motor Speedway ($5,423,189), respectively.

“The adrenaline of these drivers is sky high when you provide this type of purse and their stage is the largest-attended race in the Chase,” said Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage about the eighth race in the 10-event Chase for the Sprint Cup. “It’s proven to be quite a payday for the Dickies 500 winner with about a half million dollars being about the norm. That is plenty of reason to hang it on the line for a race win or bust.”

This year’s Dickies 500 purse tops the previous mark of $7,319,807 established last year that included a winner’s share of $496,300 to Carl Edwards of Roush Fenway Racing. Since the Dickies 500 joined the Chase in 2005 and established the initial record for the top purse in the playoff-style format, the purse has rose $478,406 to its current level over that five-year period.

Texas Motor Speedway also announced its purses for the O’Reilly Challenge Nationwide Series race and WinStar World Casino 350k Camping World Truck Series event that are part of the Dickies 500 NASCAR triple-header weekend. The purse for the Nov. 7 O’Reilly Challenge will be $1,277,884, and $573,960 for the Nov. 6 WinStar World Casino 350k.

Tickets remain for all three races and are available by calling the Texas Motor Speedway ticket office at (817) 215-8500 or by visiting www.texasmotorspeedway.com
