Bruton Smith, CEO of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI), founded
Speedway Children's Charities (SCC) in 1982 to help children in Lowe's
Motor Speedway surrounding counties.
SCC has grown over the years from one chapter to a nationally
recognized charity with chapters located at Speedway Motorsports
facilities including Atlanta, Bristol, Kentucky, Las Vegas, Lowe’s, New
Hampshire, Texas and Infineon in addition to volunteer chapters in
Washington D.C. and Tampa, Fla.
Speedway Children’s Charities plays host to a wide range of events
and promotions geared around race weeks at the speedways. Grant requests
are accepted from qualified non-profit organizations. These requests
are submitted annually to each individual chapter’s board of trustees
for evaluation. Each board’s objective is to assist as many children as
possible.
Speedway Children’s Charities Texas Chapter is dedicated to serving
the children of Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties. Since the
chapter’s inception in 1997, more than $6.7 million in funding has been
distributed including a record $1 million in grants for 2009. To learn
